Aluminium is a strategic metal, critical for a country’s national security and socio- economic development. It finds applications in core industries such as aerospace, space exploration, national defence, automotive, building and construction, electrical distribution, packaging and more. The high strength to weight ratio, corrosion resistance, light weight, supreme formability, and infinite recyclability of the metal, coupled with the fact that bauxite (the ore from which aluminium is made) mining is sustainable, have given aluminium the ‘green metal’ moniker.

Vedanta Aluminium & Power Business is India’s largest producer of ‘green metal’ aluminium, the second most important metal in the world. Backed by rich deposits of high-quality bauxite, India has the second largest aluminium production capacity in the world after China. We produce more than half of India’s aluminium at 1.9 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) in FY20. We command more than 40% market share in India and our value-added products are world leaders in their respective segments. This business is also the amongst the largest private power producers in India with a capacity of over 5300 MW. With our world-class smelters, alumina refinery and power plants across India, we fulfil our mission of spurring emerging applications of aluminium, the ‘Metal of the Future’ for a greener, more sustainable tomorrow.
